Burger #63 – The Smoke Burger (Durty Nelly’s)

Way back in 2014, when Life of Burgers was still pretty new, I paid a visit to Durty Nelly’s one evening where I found a burger that thoroughly impressed me. It was called the Whiskey Smoke Burger, and between the onion rings, the whiskey apple BBQ sauce, and the Guinness honey mustard, it quickly became one of my favourite burgers in the city.

However, it is normal for restaurants to change up their menus from time to time (which can be either really great or a swing and a miss), and unfortunately the Whiskey Smoke Burger didn’t make the cut during one of these changes and I had to say goodbye to a burger that treated me right.

While that one may be gone, it just so happens that there is another burger on the menu that has many similarities to the old one, with a few changes. I stopped by to try The Smoke Burger, hopeful that it would be just as good as the one I had 4 years ago.

Burger #62 – Le Nordique (Relish)

It’s been fairly quiet here over at Life of Burgers, due largely in part to an extremely busy work schedule. Working 70 hour weeks for the last 9 months was great for the bank account, but it didn’t really allow much time to get my hands on some tasty burgs.

Luckily, the film season is slowing down now for the year in Nova Scotia, which means I’m ready to make up for some lost time and get down to some burger business!

To get me back on track, I swung by Relish and ordered up Le Nordique, and a Centurion poutine to accompany it!

Stats

From the menu: “The Rookie (roasted garlic mayo, lettuce, tomato, beet relish) with Swiss cheese, back bacon, dijon, and caramelized onions”

Burger #60 – The Canteen Burger (The Canteen)

It’s been a while since I posted a straight-up burger review, which is due to being busy with other food-related adventures, like the Veggie Burger Series I have been putting out (which you can see here). If you’ve been missing the reviews, then you are in luck cause I’m back with a juicy profile of another local burger!

Across the harbour in Dartmouth, The Canteen is hugely popular at most times of the day, which is evident by the bustling dining area that always seems to be packed full of hungry mouths. I’ve been meaning to get in to try their burger for a while now, and it finally happened. Read on to learn all about the show-stopping Canteen Burger!

Burger #59 – Big Earl (Cheachie’s)

We are now over a month into 2017 and it’s finally time for Life of Burgers to get back into the swing of things by chowing down on some delicious burgers!

I decided for the first Halifax burger of the year, that I would visit a place that has been recommended to me a few different times, but I had yet to give it a try (except for Burger Week 2015). Cheachie’s is known for their menu of Mexican food and burgers, some of which are actually comprised of a combination of two of their regular burgers! Wanting a burger that was a bit more modest, I went with the Big Earl.

Stats

From the menu: “Mayo, lettuce, tomato, 8oz. burger, cheddar cheese, bacon, onion rings, ketchup & BBQ sauce”

Burger #58 – Brewmaster’s Burger (Gahan House)

Voting is now open for The Coast’s Best of Halifax 2016 Awards! If you could take a minute and head over to the voting page and vote Life of Burgers for Best Food Blogger, I would be extremely grateful! Thanks!

The warm and sunny days have finally arrived in Halifax, and it’s a great time to be a food-lover in the city. Patios are open, and nothing beats the heat like a cold beer and some tasty eats. I finally had some spare time (it’s been a busy past few weeks for me), so obviously getting a burger was high on my list of things to do. I noticed that Gahan House had added a new burger to their menu since the last time I was there, so I decided to give the Brewmaster’s Burger a try.

Stats

Burger #55 – Haddock Burger (The Armview)

Recently I caught a rerun of You Gotta Eat Here and it just so happened to be the episode where they visited The Armview right here in Halifax. One of the dishes they featured was their Haddock Burger, and after seeing how delicious the burger looked, I knew I had to pay a visit to this place, which I’ve discovered many people swear by!

From the menu: “Haddock loin with tomato, crisp lettuce, & lemon dill tartar”

Burger #53 – Burger from Black Sheep

It’s always exciting when a new restaurant opens in the city. It’s even more exciting for me when they include a brand new burger on their menu! Black Sheep recently opened their doors on Dresden Row and they boast “Brunch by day. Small plates, craft beer, and cocktails by night”, which is a statement that is sure to please both early risers and night owls alike. I was not expecting a brunch place to serve a burger, but I was pleasantly surprised to see one pop up on the premiere menu. Simply titled “Burger” (it’s only a matter of time before they give it a SHEEPish name), it is a breakfast inspired meal that I knew I just had to try!

Stats

From the menu: “house ground beef, English muffin, fried egg, aioli, fontina, tomato, iceberg lettuce”

Burger #52 – The Goddess (Papa Joe’s)

Not wanting to waste an opportunity to try another Burger Love winner (check out Burger #51 for more info on Burger Love!) while home on Prince Edward Island, I decided to head over to Papa Joe’s to try their 2012 champ, The Goddess. This family friendly restaurant was fairly busy when I visited, so that was a good sign that I was in for some quality food!

Burger #48 – Crunchy Haddock Burger (Rockbottom)

I’m always open to new kinds of burgers, so it was only a matter of time before fish made an appearance on Life of Burgers. While it wasn’t necessarily a planned choice to have the premier fish burger during this visit to Rockbottom, after reading it on the menu I decided that I wanted to take the plunge!

Burger #47 – South West Burger (Your Father’s Moustache)

I’m quickly closing in on burger #50, and I’m pretty excited to reach this milestone! I’m not quite there yet though, so it’s time to get to work. For #47 I headed back to Your Father’s Moustache for my third burger from here; a burger hat-trick if you will. They have a section on their menu that’s completely devoted to burgers, and this time I decided to go with the South West Burger.

Stats

From the menu: “100% pure beef patty grilled with Bull’s-Eye BBQ sauce, and topped with sauteed chipotle onions, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, and pickle”
