We are now over a month into 2017 and it’s finally time for Life of Burgers to get back into the swing of things by chowing down on some delicious burgers!
I decided for the first Halifax burger of the year, that I would visit a place that has been recommended to me a few different times, but I had yet to give it a try (except for Burger Week 2015). Cheachie’s is known for their menu of Mexican food and burgers, some of which are actually comprised of a combination of two of their regular burgers! Wanting a burger that was a bit more modest, I went with the Big Earl.

When I went overseas this past December to England and Ireland, the burger choices were plentiful. So plentiful in fact that I split my thoughts on them into two separate posts! Life of Burgers has been pretty quiet lately, but all for good reasons! In July I managed to snag a position working on the new TV series The Mist that filmed in Nova Scotia for 4 months, which was pretty exciting (especially since the NS film/television industry has had it rough over the last year or so), but it kept me very busy and burgers had to be put on hold for a bit.
About a week after the show wrapped, I took a much-needed vacation ‘across the pond’ for a couple weeks in England and Ireland. While there was many awesome and iconic things to see and do in these beautiful countries, I obviously had to take some time to dive into the beefier side of things and see how much burger game they could bring to the table.
I managed to get my hands on 11 different burgers on my trip, and Part 1 is going to showcase 5 of these meaty creations!
Things have been a little quiet with Life of Burgers lately, due to being really busy over the last couple of months, but I figured it was time to get out and eat some more delicious food!
I’m a big fan of food festivals, and one of my favourites in the city is Halifax Sausage Fest! The week wrapped up recently, but I did manage to get out and try a handful of restaurants and their contributions to the event, and I was really impressed with the ones I got to chow down on!

The warm and sunny days have finally arrived in Halifax, and it’s a great time to be a food-lover in the city. Patios are open, and nothing beats the heat like a cold beer and some tasty eats. I finally had some spare time (it’s been a busy past few weeks for me), so obviously getting a burger was high on my list of things to do. I noticed that Gahan House had added a new burger to their menu since the last time I was there, so I decided to give the Brewmaster’s Burger a try.

The weather is getting (somewhat) warmer, restaurants are setting up their patios, and I’ve finally recovered from the piles of delicious burgers that I devoured during Halifax Burger Week and PEI Burger Love! Not wanting to waste any time getting the Summer burger season underway, I stopped in at Flipburger on Argyle to try out The MacDaddy!

Back in 2011, PEI Burger Love was created, and while it started out small (only 14 restaurants participated in the first year), Burger Love has turned into a huge event across the Island, and this year there is a whopping 73 burgers to try out!
Prince Edward Island is where I’m originally from, and given my love for burgers it might surprise you to hear that I have never participated in the event before…until now. A week or so ago I found myself back home for a VERY short visit, and I knew I couldn’t leave without tasting as many burger as I could get to.
I have to give a big applause to the Island for really stepping up and showing how delicious Island beef can be. I managed to get to 6 different places during my visit, and it was a damn good time!

Burger squirrels, burger cars, and burger heat. These were all things that could be found throughout Halifax during this year’s Burger Week. With a whopping 79 restaurants participating this year, the choices were endless for those looking for a good burger, and the list of restaurants that really stepped up is a long one!
While this year I didn’t tackle every burger like last year (burgers can get pricey when you don’t have that Ambassador title), I still had a pretty successful Burger Week. I got to interview this year’s Burger Ambassadors, which you can read here, and numerous restaurants let me come in for a sneak peek of their burger before the week even began!
This year I got to preview 13 burgers, and through Burger Week I ate another 22, making for 35 whole burgers that I got to try out. I was really amazed with all the delicious burgers that I ate this year, and picking my top choices was not an easy task. However, I have finally come to a decision on which ones, just narrowly, beat out the rest this year, in my opinion.

With the week being over, Burger Week has now come to an end, but don’t be sad just yet! You can still take a look at the last 8 burgers I tried, and see what I thought of the (mostly) delicious creations!

Burger Week is now over halfway done, and it doesn’t seem like Halifax is slowing their consumption down anytime soon. With the end of the week in sight, I have been adding more and more burgers to my list, to the point of not knowing how I will make time, or stomach space, to try them. However, I will be pushing until the end of Day 7 to make sure I get to experience all the ones that I want to.
For now, I’m back to give you a look at 8 more burgers I have tried, and hopefully it will point you in the right direction in terms of burger choices. Trust me when I say that you’re going to want to read this one, because there is some awesome burgers this time around!
