Burger #40 – Bacon Cheese Burger (The Wooden Monkey)

While the days might not be getting any cooler, Summer is slowly nearing its end. With the end of this season comes the end of the many awesome patios found in this city, so why not enjoy them while I still can! For my next patio visit, I made my way to 1707 Grafton Street where The Wooden Monkey is located. This was my first visit to this location (I visited the Dartmouth location during Burger Week) so I was eager to see what they had to offer in terms of burgers. I decided to go with their Bacon Cheese Burger.

Burger #39 – Peanut Butter Burger (Darrell’s)

One burger fad that I have never been completely sold on is the use of peanut butter. I love both peanut butter and burgers so it would make sense that I would love them together, but that hasn’t necessarily been the case. That being said, I believe that somewhere out there is a burger with peanut butter on it that will blow my away. I decided to head to Darrell’s for their take on this combination. Located at 5576 Fenwick Street, Darrell’s Peanut Butter Burger has become a well known thing around Halifax, so I figured it was only right to start my search here.

Burger #38 – Beef & Blue Burger (Stubborn Goat)

When I first visited Stubborn Goat, I didn’t have the experience I had quite hoped for. I had heard so much hype about this new addition to the Halifax restaurant scene so when the burger I ordered wasn’t the greatest, I was sure that this was just a fluke and I knew I had to come back again and give them another shot. During Burger Week I visited them again to try their Hellfire Burger, and I was really happy with my experience on this return visit (even if the spiciness of the burger brought tears to my eyes). I decided it was time to go back and try another one of their burgers, this time the Beef & Blue Burger.

Burger #37 – Bacon Cheeseburger (Willy’s)

There are a couple classic spots located throughout the city that have become popular locations for the late-night intoxicated crowd. Since I moved to Halifax, one of these spots has been Willy’s. Located at 5239 Blower’s Street, it is not uncommon to see a long line of people standing outside the order window after a night of drinking. I have stood in that line many times myself, but lately I have come to realize that the food here isn’t that bad when you’re stone cold sober as well. They have a pretty basic menu when it comes to burgers, so I went with the  Bacon Cheeseburger.

Stats

From the menu: “Ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickles, fried mushrooms, fried onions (I also splurged and added cheese and bacon)”

Burger #36 – The Donicken (Foggy Goggle)

Be sure to head over to The Coast website and vote Life of Burgers for Best Food Blogger for the Best of Halifax Awards! Voting closes July 31st!

One thing that I try to be weary of when trying new burgers, are ones that are trying to be too ambitious. This could mean way too many toppings, an unusual combination of ingredients, or just the sheer size of the burger itself. That being said, I want to give a fair shot to each burger, kind of a “don’t knock it til you try it” way of thinking. The Donicken from Foggy Goggle initially had me worried that it may fall into this category, but being a lover of meat, I figured that I had to at least give it a try (and I’m glad I did).

Burger #35 – Mozza Chicken Burger (Fickle Frog)

Don’t forget to vote for Life of Burgers for Best Food Blogger in The Coast’s Best of Halifax Awards!

Since starting this blog, one thing I have learned is that burgers come in all different shapes and sizes. You can have ones that are plain and simple, or there can be ones that are extravagant, inventive, and (sometimes) over the top. There is also numerous possibilities when it comes to the meat you can use. While LoB initially started out mostly dealing with beef burgers, I’ve decided that it’s time to start expanding. This is where Fickle Frog comes in. Located at 5675 Spring Garden Road, this has been a place where I have enjoyed a few beef burgers (and maybe a few beer). I chose this place to be the first burger of the chicken variety for Life of Burgers, and it was titled the Mozza Chicken Burger.

Burger #34 – Banger Burger (Durty Nelly’s)

Another warm Summer evening meant it was time to hit up another one of Halifax’s great patios. For this meal, I visited another favourite of mine, Durty Nelly’s. Located at 1660 Argyle Street, this was my first visit back (with the exception of Burger Week) since they changed their menu around. I decided to go with their Banger Burger for this visit.

I have been making some changes with the format for my posts, and I’ve decided to no longer do the “Restaurant Atmosphere & Service” section of my reviews. I feel like this will make it more about the burger, which I assume is the main reason you are here. Feel free to give some feedback on this change or anything else you would like to see. I would love to hear from you!

Burger #33 – Old School (2 Doors Down)

One of the best things about trying all different kinds of burgers, is that I get to find places that become instant favourites. This is definitely the case with 2 Doors Down. Located at 1533 Barrington Street, 2 Doors Down has become one of the most talked about restaurants in the city. During Halifax Burger Week, they killed it with their Steakhouse Slider, and it became the burger of the week for not only myself, but many others. Having already reviewed their Smokehouse Burger, it was time to sink my teeth into the Old School Cheeseburger.

After completing my run as Burger Ambassador for Halifax Burger Week, I had a list of places that I wanted to go back and check out, one of which was Clay West Bar & Grill. Located at 120 Susie Lake Crescent in Bayers Lake, this was one of the spots that I wanted to return to so I could try one of their regular menu burgers mostly because I enjoyed their Burger Week contribution. After a bit of back and forth between burgers, I finally chose the Smokehouse Burger.

Burger #31 – Southwestern Burger (The Argyle)

Life of Burgers is back! After a couple months of special circumstances (recovering from Burger Week and some major tech issues) with no reviews, I have returned to make it up to my readers!

Now that I’m back, I’m ready for a burger-filled summer, and sharing my findings with you guys. I recently headed back to The Argyle, where one of my favourite burgers thus far comes from. Located at 1575 Argyle Street, The Argyle is one of the many restaurants that are extremely popular during “patio season”. For my second visit, I went with the Southwestern Burger.
