Halifax Burger Week 2019 Wrap-Up

Big, spicy flavours, creative meat combinations, and non-burger dishes in burger form were just a few of the trends that appeared for the 2019 edition of Halifax Burger Week, and with over 140 options this year, dedicated burger fans had their work cut out for them if they wanted to experience all the tasty choices being offered!

While the numbers haven’t been officially announced yet, from the amounts slowly trickling in from restaurants on social media, it appears that this has also been another great year in support of Feed Nova Scotia. I have no doubt that the total donation this year will be a HUGE help in supplying food banks, shelters, and meal programs across the province with items to help those in need. If you are still looking to donate, or you want to volunteer, I strongly encourage you to check out their website and see how you can help!

I managed to get my hands on 31 of the burgers that were offered this year, and even though there were a few that I didn’t get to, I do feel like I hit most of the spots that were getting a lot buzz throughout the week.

There were a lot of really delicious, well thought out burgers this year, and despite A LOT of mind-changing and deliberating, I finally settled on my Top 3 burgers of the event, along with ten Honourable Mentions that also deserve some time in the spotlight. Read on to see which burgers were top of the class for Halifax Burger Week 2019!

Halifax Burger Week 2019 Preview – Part 4

It’s FINALLY Halifax Burger Week eve, and soon restaurants across the city will be packed full of people looking for that next great burger, all while contributing to Feed Nova Scotia.

Over the last few days, I’ve been sharing some early looks and insights into some of the burgers being offered this year (you can find the previous burgs in Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3), and I have three more for your consideration before the festivities get underway. Check out the the burger options from Black Sheep, Relish, and Vandal Doughnuts!

Burger #62 – Le Nordique (Relish)

It’s been fairly quiet here over at Life of Burgers, due largely in part to an extremely busy work schedule. Working 70 hour weeks for the last 9 months was great for the bank account, but it didn’t really allow much time to get my hands on some tasty burgs.

Luckily, the film season is slowing down now for the year in Nova Scotia, which means I’m ready to make up for some lost time and get down to some burger business!

To get me back on track, I swung by Relish and ordered up Le Nordique, and a Centurion poutine to accompany it!

Halifax Burger Week 2017 Wrap-Up

Halifax Burger Week is now over for another year, and the city is stuffed to the brim with the thousands of burgers that have been consumed. With beef, chicken, fish, veggie, sausage, lamb, boar, and even kangaroo available as options this year, the choices were abundant and I think it’s safe to say that Haligonians were very satisfied with the turnout!

Delicious sauces and pasta (both deep-fried and not) seemed to be some popular topping choices this year, and a lot of the 95+ restaurants really stepped up with some amazing, original burger compositions.

This was easily the hardest year I’ve had thus far trying to decide my favourite burgers of the week. I got to try 31 of the options this year (12 previews and 19 during the week) and I kept going back and changing my choices for both the Top 3 as well as the 10 Honourable Mentions. There were many burgers that got left off this list that I really enjoyed, but there just wasn’t enough spots for them all. Basically, what I’m trying to say is Halifax knocked it out of the park for Burger Week 2017!

Halifax Sausage Fest 2016

Things have been a little quiet with Life of Burgers lately, due to being really busy over the last couple of months, but I figured it was time to get out and eat some more delicious food!

I’m a big fan of food festivals, and one of my favourites in the city is Halifax Sausage Fest! The week wrapped up recently, but I did manage to get out and try a handful of restaurants and their contributions to the event, and I was really impressed with the ones I got to chow down on!

Halifax Burger Week 2016 Wrap-Up

Burger squirrels, burger cars, and burger heat. These were all things that could be found throughout Halifax during this year’s Burger Week. With a whopping 79 restaurants participating this year, the choices were endless for those looking for a good burger, and the list of restaurants that really stepped up is a long one!

While this year I didn’t tackle every burger like last year (burgers can get pricey when you don’t have that Ambassador title), I still had a pretty successful Burger Week. I got to interview this year’s Burger Ambassadors, which you can read here, and numerous restaurants let me come in for a sneak peek of their burger before the week even began!

This year I got to preview 13 burgers, and through Burger Week I ate another 22, making for 35 whole burgers that I got to try out. I was really amazed with all the delicious burgers that I ate this year, and picking my top choices was not an easy task. However, I have finally come to a decision on which ones, just narrowly, beat out the rest this year, in my opinion.

Here are my Top 3 burgers, as well as some honourable mentions, from Halifax Burger Week 2016!

Burger #39 – Peanut Butter Burger (Darrell’s)

One burger fad that I have never been completely sold on is the use of peanut butter. I love both peanut butter and burgers so it would make sense that I would love them together, but that hasn’t necessarily been the case. That being said, I believe that somewhere out there is a burger with peanut butter on it that will blow my away. I decided to head to Darrell’s for their take on this combination. Located at 5576 Fenwick Street, Darrell’s Peanut Butter Burger has become a well known thing around Halifax, so I figured it was only right to start my search here.

Halifax Burger Week – Day #4

Closing in on the midway point of Halifax Burger Week, it’s time for Day #4! Joining the team on this day was Jordan, Ryan, and Olivia.

Burger #26 – Jalapeño Beer Cheeseburger from Elle’s Bistro

Elle's Bistro

Starting the day off was the Jalapeño Beer Cheeseburger from Elle’s Bistro. Obviously, the first thing I noticed was the onion rings (if you have been reading my other posts you should know of my love for them by now). They did offer a great crunch to the burger which was really nice. I did like the use of cheese sauce in lieu of a traditional cheese slice. However, it was advertised as a jalapeño cheese sauce, but I didn’t really taste any heat at all. The patty itself was cooked really nicely, and my only complaint is that I would have like to taste a bit more seasoning. The texture of the top bun was really great, and it was one of my favourite parts. Overall, this was a decent burger, but not amazing.
