Burger #4 – Moustache Burger (Your Father’s Moustache)

For #4, I went to a favourite place of mine, Your Father’s Moustache. Found at 5686 Spring Garden Road, which is above Rockbottom (see Burger #3), this restaurant and bar has become a pretty popular spot on this busy Halifax street. Not only do they have their spacious dining area, but they also have a rooftop patio (which sadly was closed when we went) for those nice summer days. With a few different burgers to choose from, I decided to go with the Moustache Burger.

Stats

From the menu: “Our signature burger starts with a 100% pure beef patty, topped with pulled pork, banana peppers, Swiss cheese, two onion rings, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and our spicy BBQ sauce.”

Appearance (5/10)

I wasn’t overly impressed with the appearance of this burger. It didn’t really look like any time was taken to arrange it in an appealing way and was just kind of thrown on the plate. That being said, the burger did still look delicious. I love when I get a burger and I just see a bunch of melted cheese and some onion rings. It may not have looked overly impressive, but looks can be deceiving.

Taste (7/10)

As you can see, this burger was yet another towering challenge, but it was nothing I couldn’t handle. It wasn’t until after my first bite that I remembered that pulled pork was one of the toppings on this burger because it was hidden under all that cheese. Now, I’m the kind of person that thinks pulled pork can make anything better, so I might be kind of biased in this case, but the addition of the pulled pork put this burger on another level. The sauce that the pork was marinated in really went well with the burger patty and cheese, and it was a whole collection of deliciousness in my mouth. The one thing that really left an impression on me while eating this burger, was the banana peppers. Now I’m not a huge spicy food fan but I do enjoy it from time to time. These banana peppers were really nice at first, but near the second half of the burger my mouth was on fire. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I’m just not as experienced when it comes to spicy.

Restaurant Atmosphere & Service (9/10)

The atmosphere of Your Father’s Moustache is great for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it doesn’t matter whether you are there for a meal with a group, or if you just want to get a drink and watch the game as it is accommodating for both of those scenarios. Also, it has various different seating options that allow for either intimate dining, or a great view of the always busy Spring Garden Road (perfect for people watching). They also have a patio, which I yet to experience, but from what I hear, it’s great for those nice summer days. Our waitress was super friendly, and she made it her priority to make sure that her customers always had everything they needed, which was great!

Cost vs. What You Get (6/10)

To get the Moustache Burger it’s going to cost you $14.99. Slightly on the higher end of burger prices, I can see how a lot of people would shy away from the burger. I would agree that it is slightly higher than what I would have liked to pay for this burger. That being said, you do get pretty good portions of the beef, pork, and cheese. If I had it my way, I would probably lower the cost of this burger by a dollar or two.

Overall (6.75/10)

I love Your Father’s Moustache, and I have to say that I did enjoy eating this burger. While it isn’t the best overall burger I’ve ever had, it definitely holds it’s own in the burger realm. I would especially recommend this burger to people that like some spicy kick in their food, as this burger has a lot of that to dish out.
